I am a Professor of Linguistics who works on phonology and its intersections with phonetics, morphology and psycholinguistics. My research centers on patterns governing the distribution of segments (consonants and vowels) in words, with emphasis on issues surrounding segmental representations, locality, and the respective roles of similarity and positional prominence in segmental interactions. Some of the empirical areas in which I focus are harmony patterns, spanning vowel harmony, consonant harmony and nasal harmony, and the temporal and spatial representation of complex consonants, such as the liquids l and r. I have also recently been conducting collaborative research on Ladin, a Romance language spoken in the Italian Central-Eastern Alps. This research focuses on the documentation of the phonetics and phonology of the Val di Fassa Ladin varieties.
